The process of becoming a supervisor can create a lot of stress and paperwork for individuals but the college and university provides resources and training courses to help guide you through the process as well as enable you to hone your supervisorial skills.
On becoming a supervisor, employees must complete the following training as required by the college:
- New Hire Process
- Compensation Options
- Generic New Supervisor
These courses will ensure that you have a full understanding of the hiring process, the requirements of you during this process, as well as your responsibilities to your employees and HR regarding your position. Additionally, the training materials below are available for you to use as a reference at any time.
Employee Training Customization options
Supervisors may require additional courses for their employees through TrainTraq. For help assigning courses, contact your department’s Business Office or contact Carol Holmes in the Dean’s Office. Additionally, customized courses may be provided for a work group or organization’s staff.
Staff Evaluations Process
Staff evaluations cover work done from April 1 – March 31 of each year. Beginning in March, every staff member will select 8-10 people that they have worked with over the year to act as stakeholders. These stakeholders will complete a Stakeholder Evaluation that consists of 3-6 questions on their interaction and quality of work. These questions are selected and/or approved prior to the evaluation process by the supervisor.
Each staff member must complete a Self Evaluation where they will comment on their own progress, work productivity, etc. The supervisor must then review both the Stakeholder Evaluations and their employee’s Self-Evaluation and conduct their own Supervisor Evaluation. Supervisors will then meet with their employees to review all evaluations and provide feedback.
